Welcome to winter! Hopefully you have all had some good snow days, or have some coming up. A few housekeeping matters for the winter season at Gunuma:

  • Please do not place items on the top of the main refrigerator in the kitchen – this can potentially damage the fridge. Eskies etc should be stored in vehicles, rooms or other storage facilities in the Lodge
  • Parking options for winter – please see a list of available parking and transport options for the winter season here. National Parks and Wildlife Service does not allow overnight parking in Perisher Valley or Smiggin Holes from the June long weekend until September (end date confirmed each season), and members and guests will need to organise their own parking/transport.
  • Native marsupials are currently enjoying Gunuma’s hospitality. Humane traps are being employed to relocate them, but in the meantime please do not eat in the kids rooms downstairs, or store unopened food in bedrooms. As it’s a native animal it must not be harmed – catch and release is the only management option an approved trap. One of their favourite foods seems to be peanut butter on a biscuit! Our Vice President Geoff holds the record, having caught 5 during his stay. (Not sure if that qualifies as an Ace) The challenge is now set to see who can catch and release the most during their stay. Please make sure when you set the trap that you check it at least twice a day. You will need to release them into an area within 200M of the lodge with trees – across Plum Road opposite the rear entrance is an ideal location
  • New coffee machine – please see info re the new coffee machine here. Reminder – it take GROUND coffee or ESE compliant pods (environmentally friendly coffee pods with coffee encased in a permeable food grade paper). The ESE pods can be bought online, but are NOT available at Coles or Woolworths
  • Lounges – we all sit in our lovely lounges at Gunuma – unfortunately some are comfortable and some it seems that you are sitting on the frame. As part of the ongoing maintenance and refurbishment of the Lodge the committee  is looking to either refurbish or replace the 13 black leather lounge chairs. Each chair has a different need, including leather repair of a hole or tear, rplacement of foam/padding, re-stapling of  bases etc. We are seeking advice from a member who would be interested in quoting on this work or can advise on a suitably qualified person to undertake this work – this would be a commercial arrangement at a fair rate with appropriate insurance and warranty, undertaken at the Lodge after the winter season, and can include accommodation during the work period. If repair and refurbishment is not economical the Committee may consider replacing the lounges with something similar. If a member is interested in providing these please provide a quotation outlining the cost, specification and delivery in a proposal to the Committee.

Smiggins Bowl – 22 September 2023 RSVP by 20th August.

The Smiggins Bowl/ Shield will be going ahead this year on the 22 September.

The events running are GS ski and board, and x country. You do not need to be an amazing skier/ boarder or x country skier, we do it for the fun of it but if we do well then that Is a bonus 😊

Maintenance Manager committee position

The maintenance manager position is still vacant, and the committee are currently taking on extra tasks. It has been decided that the maintenance manager role can be performed by a subcommittee with the manger being a Gunuma member and committee member, while the subcommittee members could be co-members . Please note that the maintenance manager does NOT have to do all maintenance works or attend all of the work parties. Their role is to organise and keep track of maintenance tasks. Please contact the Peter Rodda if you are interested.
